Rock The Cape First Friday Gallery Tour

Hatteras Island’s community of art galleries will be having their 1st First Friday of the 2019 season in conjunction with Rock The Cape on June 7.


Participating galleries will offer art classes and demonstrations, supply shoppers with food and drink, and entertain them with live music up and down the island throughout the day. Some shops will be having sales and raffles.

Tour Stops

Sandcastles, 39774 NC-12, Avon

Join Sandcastles at 3:00 and make a wind chime of driftwood, shells, and sea glass. And If you happen to be seeing this prior to Friday the 7th, Sandcastles is offering a Stone Medicine Class on Thursday the 6th at 9:00 a.m. Learn all about rocks and crystals and their unique properties. Reservations are required for both of these classes. 252-995-0147

Kinnakeet Clay, 40462 North End Rd., Avon

Let them enhance your RTC experience by taking a pottery class! Two hour classes welcome youth and adults - no pottery experience necessary! Instructors will guide you through the process of using hand-building methods, creativity and your imagination to turn slabs of clay into a functional or decorative piece of pottery. Call for more info. Swell Art Gallery (formerly Indian Town Gallery), 51689 NC-12, Frisco

Stop by anytime on Friday the 7th and mention RTC, and receive 20% of all gallery-owned inventory. Watch mixed-media artist, Kim Perry, demonstrate how she creates her tiny acrylic seascapes on tiny canvases. Enjoy wine and cheese (and other delights) against the backdrop of their awesome playlist from 5-7:30pm.


Empty Nest Studio & Gallery, 52193 Cardinal Street (on Hwy 12 across from the Gingerbread House), Frisco

Owner/jewelry artist Crystal Blackmon will be giving beach glass wire wrapping demonstrations at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., & 2:00 p.m. Stop by from 5-7:30 and enjoy coleslaw and fish shooters with sweet tea - a Hatteras treat!

Sandy Bay Gallery, 53013 NC-12, Frisco

The Gallery will be hosting a very special trunk show with fabric artist, Dana Chandler Smith. She will be onsite throughout the day displaying and selling her line of “Swag Bags” - bags and jewelry pouches made of silks, cottons, brocades and more. They will be serving yummy refreshments until 7 p.m.


Family Jewels, 56910 NC-12, Hatteras

Stop by for some punch, delicious cookies and live music on the deck. Owner/glass artist Wendy Sisler will be giving lamp work bead demonstrations from 6-7. Watch her melt glass over a torch and shape it into beautiful, colorful, and sculptural beads.


Blue Pelican Gifts & Yarn, 57762 NC-12, Hatteras

See resident and visiting fiber and mixed media jewelry artists at work from 11-5. They will be having a special Rock-The-Cape sale all day on the 7th. Stop by anytime during the two weeks of RTC to enter a raffle. Two winners will receive $50 gift cards (winners will be notified by text or email).
